In 1999, Jim Schultz, Public Relations Director of the Atlanta Braves, issued ScorePAD Sports, Inc. President Douglas Hines a credential for the Braves home games so he could further the development of ScorePAD. Hines spent a good part of the season sitting nearby the official scorer, learning the level of complexity that would be needed to make ScorePAD the standard in scoring software. That same season, Hines met Philip Civins, Associate Producer for the TBS/Turner South baseball broadcasts. Impressed by ScorePAD, Civins used the software to score all 162 Atlanta Braves games during the 2000 season. Prior to working in television, Civins’ background included five seasons working for the Atlanta Braves. Together, Hines and Civins improved the software and built a PC database that was Major League tested and reliable.
Recognizing the value of the product, Civins partnered with Hines and assisted in the development of ScorePAD to become the most in-depth and accurate baseball software available for the Palm OS-based PDAs. In late 2000, Hines developed a special version of ScorePAD that updates television graphics in real-time. Later that season the more complex version of ScorePAD was used to update graphics for TBS and Turner South. ScorePAD has now been used on more than 6,000 telecasts in the past seven years over a variety of network and cable channels.
The innovator in the field of high-tech baseball statistical scorekeeping, ScorePAD Sports, Inc., is currently the only real-time in-game scoring system used by television broadcasters.
Professional television clients of ScorePAD include: Turner Sports (Peachtree TV – Braves); TBS (national game of the week); Comcast SportsNet (Cubs, White Sox, Phillies, Giants, A's and Mets); YES Network (Yankees); MLB Network (game of the week) and NESN (Red Sox).
